I’m Dying

Writer: Vineet KKN 'Panchhi' Vineet KKN 'Panchhi'

No need to sound the alarm just yet… because so are you. I’m not planning to exit today or tomorrow (I hope), but like the rest of us, wakt sabka limited hai. Based on the typical Indian life expectancy, I’ve got roughly 1,000 weeks left. It sounds like a lot... until you think of it as a plot of prime property on Sahestradhara Road in Dehradun, jispar Gurgaon ke builders ki nazar hai… ready to build yet another Pacific Golf Course. Wahi plot Dosto, steadily shrinking week by week.

Suddenly, those 1,000 weeks start feeling like… arre yaar, ek aur gaya? I think of this time as my “living-jayedaad”… something valuable that I’ll ultimately have to give away.

So, if I choose to give you a piece of my “living-zayedaad”? That’s about as big a gift as I can offer. You could repay me in rupees, but the only true currency that holds value here is your own time, given in return. Plus, some rupees if you're feeling generous.

This shrinking plot has a thousand possible uses. I could be growing metaphorical poetic-tomatoes, or written-potatoes, putting the jayedaad into something I believe in, like The Jai Hind Project, or just soaking in the sun with a Kingfisher Ultra in hand. I could also waste it on occasion, arguing online about kis-kis masjid ke neeche mandir hain, or about how we’re the best civilization in the world, baaki duniya ne sab kuch hamse seekha hai… and oh, we also taught the world humility.

A few years ago, I sat down with a notebook and divided people into two lists: those who genuinely add to my life and those who... well, deserve someone else. Over time, those lists merged quietly, leaving me with only the people I truly want around. Today, if I spend time with someone, it’s mostly intentional. You’ve made it into my limited, prized zayedaad, and for that, I’m grateful.

Thinking about this jayedaad does have one clear benefit… it makes me invest in what genuinely matters: friends, communities, passions, and, in my case, the hope that one day India will truly be great. Not just as a developed economy but also as a deep-thinking, action-driven, empathetic nation that gives its children great role models.

So, dosto…those who regularly share their jayedaad with me, aapka shukriya. And cheers to our zayedaad... while it lasts.

Much sunshine and laughter to you. All my very best.
